ROLLINS STEPS INTO WELLNESS!
All Rollins College
faculty, staff and students are encouraged to accept the
challenge to move more and eat smart! Rollins has
partnered with Central Florida businesses and Florida on
the Move, an affiliate of the
national America on the Move initiative, with the belief
that healthy eating and active living lead to a healthy
lifestyle and a better quality of
life. This is a one-of-a kind collaborative community effort!
Join
TEAM ROLLINS
Rollins College has teamed up with Florida on the
Move (FOM), an affiliate of America on the Move (AOM),
to promote a healthy lifestyle campus-wide initiative.
The FOM challenge is a concept known as "energy
balance". The "energy balance"
concept is simple- move more and eat less by making 2
small changes-take 2000 more steps per day and eat 100
fewer calories per day. There are no complicated
rules or special equipment. Just incorporate these
small changes in your daily routine for big
results! Join the Rollins community as we step
into wellness!
Sign up online and start moving
now! Go to www.floridaonthemove.org,
click "Join Now" and follow the individual
registration process. Please provide the Rollins
group registration of "RRO17990" to register
as part of TEAM ROLLINS! Each
person who registers for TEAM ROLLINS will receive a
free pedometer to count daily steps from Rollins College
Health Services.
Start getting on the move
by tracking your daily progress. Plus receive free
daily tips and reminders and valuable information on
physical activity and healthy eating.
Bring Your Walking Shoes on Tuesdays and
Thursdays
TEAM ROLLINS walks from 12:30 p.m. to
1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Come get to
know your fellow Rollins colleagues while stepping
into wellness! Meet in front of Mills Memorial
Hall when your schedule permits.
Anniversary campus walk
on
February 1st
About 12 TEAM ROLLINS members participated in the Anniversary
TEAM ROLLINS walk
at the end of the fair. TEAM ROLLINS member Carol
Dacre led us about 2,000 steps around campus. It
is easy to reach the goal of 2,000 more steps per
day. It only takes about 20 minutes. You can
take this path on campus. Check out the Campus
Walking Paths on the left. Wellness
Fair on February 1, 2006 was a success!
This all-campus wellness fair featured wellness education
and information from about 40 organizations from the
Orlando and Winter Park communities and several Rollins organizations/departments. In addition
to information, various screenings were offered
including blood pressure, cholesterol,
vision, skin and spine screenings. There was
free food, free neckwraps and massages, athletic center tours
& fitness machine demos, Jeopardy wellness game,
HeartMath and door prizes and giveaways. Two grand prize bicycles
were given away as well-congratulations to Linda Watson
& McKenzie Bennett! Over 300 attended this
event !! We hope to see you at the fair next year!
