TONY AMATO

HEAD WOMEN'S SOCCER COACH

Returning for his third season at the helm of the Rollins College women's soccer team is head coach Tony Amato. Over the past two seasons, Amato has built a strong foundation for the program from which the 2005 team can grow.

In his first season as head coach in 2003, the Tars finished with a school record 13 wins and a fourth place finish in the Sunshine State Conference. Five of Amato's players were recognized with second team All-SSC honors and two with NSCAA All-South Region second team honors. On the defensive side, goalie Francesca Nicoloso set a Tars record with nine shutouts, while the team allowed only 23 goals all season.

In 2004, Amato led the team to a 10-7-1 overall record and the team's first appearance in the SSC Tournament Championship game, including a monumental shootout victory over powerhouse Barry in the tournament semi-finals. As a reward for their efforts, two players were named to the All-SSC Tournament team, as well as two All-SSC first team members, one All-SSC second team member, and one NSCAA All-South Region first team member.

Amato is no stranger to the SSC or Cahall-Sandspur Field. He graduated from Rollins in 2000, where he was a four year letterman and three-time All-Sunshine State Conference selection. Amato completed his career ranked among the Rollins career leaders in goals (fifth), assists (fifth) and total points (fourth). During the 1999 season he led the conference in scoring and was named the Sunshine State Conference “Player of the Year”. He was the first Rollins player to receive that honor in 18 years. Amato also was a first team All-South Region selection and the Rollins “Male Athlete of the Year.”

In addition to being a standout on the field, Amato was also an outstanding student and garnered second team GTE Academic All-America honors as a senior. He was also named the Rollins “Scholar-Athlete of the Year” and the Sunshine State Conference Male “Scholar Athlete of the Year.” He graduated with a 3.71 GPA as an Area Studies major.

He has his Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Central Florida, and is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a health fitness instructor. Amato also has his NSCAA Advanced National Coaching license and his United States Soccer Federation “B” license.
