Laura Guild tallied two huge goals last weekend, lifting Rollins
to a pair of region victories and keeping the Tars perfect
on the season. She scored the game winner in the Tars 1-0
triumph over Alabama-Huntsville as she sent a strike past
the UAH keeper just 5:23 into the contest. She then opened
scoring in the Tars 2-1 overtime win against Montevallo with
a goal in the 39 th minute. Guild sits fifth in the Tars all-time
goals scored list with 22, just four back of fourth place.

SOCCER WINS PAIR TO STAY PERFECT ON THE YEAR

Season
Record: 3-0
Defense
has been the key to the Tars success this season as they have
allowed just one goal and are 3-0 for the first time in program
history. After blanking Flagler 1-0 to open the year, Rollins
headed to Alabama for a pair of south region games last
weekend. Senior Laura Guild ( Jupiter , Fla . / Cardinal Newman)
scored the lone goal and game winner just 5:23 into the contest.
After a stop on the other end of the field, the visitors moved
the ball up field with quick passes from Alison Tradd ( Longwood
, Fla . / Lake Mary) and Cristina Saenz ( Altamonte Spring
, Fla. /Bishop Moore ). Guild then broke away from a pack
of defenders and found the back of the net for Rollins' lone
score. Goalkeeper Francesca Nicoloso ( Tallahassee , Fla .
/ Lawton Chiles) and the defense of Tradd , Lindsay Taylor
(Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter Community), Jen Finkel (Marlton, N.J./The
Lawrenceville School) and Danielle Martin (Melbourne, Fla./Melbourne
Central Catholic) took care of the rest, allowing UAH just
two shots on goal. Nicoloso's shutout was the 15 th of her
career.
The
Tars then headed to Montevallo , Alabama for another big region
game. Guild put Rollins up 1-0 as she found the back of the
net in the 39 th minute after a Martin offering for her second
goal of the road trip. The hosts fought back 13 minutes later
with a goal to knot the score 1-1. The score was the first
surrendered by the Rollins defense of the season and ended
their 231 minute scoreless streak. Both schools defenses locked
down for the remainder of the period and regulation ended
with the score locked. Rollins was on the attack right out
of the gate in overtime, firing off three shots. The game
winner came off the foot of freshman Dana Trunzo ( Port Orange
, Fla . / Spruce Creek) in the 98 th minute as a Dana Merrill
(Melbourne, Fla./Melbourne Central Catholic) corner kick bounced
around in the box until Trunzo fired to the back of the net.
Rollins
is looking at another big weekend coming up as they host a
pair of matches. West Florida comes to town Friday, September
9 for a 5 p.m. contest, followed by a 1 p.m. Sunday, September
11 match-up with Armstrong Atlantic. All home contests are
played at The Barker Family Stadium at Cahall-Sandspur Field.

MEN'S
SOCCER STRUGGLES IN ALABAMA SWING
Alabama-Huntsville
2, Rollins 1
Montevallo
2, Rollins 1
Season
Record: 1-2
Rollins
opened up a three day, two game Alabama road trip with a Friday
match-up against Ala.-Huntsville. The hosts took an early
1-0 lead in the 21 st minute with a strike deep in the box.
The score remained the same at halftime as Rollins fired off
seven shots in the opening period, but none found the net.
With their backs against the wall in the 86 th minute, Ryan
Dodds ( Windermere , Fla . / Edgewater) sent a pass to freshman
Dennis Chin ( Oviedo , Fla. /Oviedo) who broke away and blasted
a shot past the Chargers keeper, knotting the score at 1-1.
The celebration was short lived as UAH answered just 91 ticks
later with a breakaway score that proved to be the game winner.
Keeper Frazer Siddall (Les Lauriers , Channel Islands/ Hautlieu
) gathered three saves, but suffered
the loss.
The
Tars then matched up with Montevallo on Sunday, but were once
again turned away by a score of 2-1. The contest was almost
a carbon copy of the Tars prior game as Montevallo took a
1-0 lead early into the game with a goal in the fifth minute.
Rollins got on the board in the 10 th minute as a Christopher
Chafin (Lake Worth, Fla./The Kings Academy) shot rebounded
off the UM keeper and right to Dodds who put it past the keeper
for his second goal of the season. Jon Gruenwald (Manlius,
N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) also assisted on the play. Montevallo
came back in the waning minutes of the first half to take
a 2-1 lead, which was all the hosts would need as both schools
defenses dominated the second period. Rollins got off 13 shots
to Montevallo's eight in the game.
Rollins
gets right back to it this weekend as they host a pair of
matches in Winter Park . The Tars will clash with the University
of West Florida Friday, September 9 at 7 p.m. and Flagler
College Sunday, September 11 at 4 p.m.
