Images From the 2007 Marine Biology Laboratory in Hawaii

Our dormitory at the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology. The Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology is located on Coconut Island, off the north shore of Oahu.

The 2007 Marine Biology class at the Nuuanu Pali, the 985 foot cliffs of the Koolau Mountain Range of Oahu.

The class heads out to the reefs just off of Coconut Island.

After a morning of collecting, the class returns to the main laboratory. 

Studying the intertidal near Maili on Oahu's west coast.

We also studied marine communities on intertidal rocks at Sandy Beach on Oahu's east shore.

Dr. Kathryn Sutherland and Dr. Fiona Harper were the instructors.

In the laboratory, students identify the collected specimens.

Exams were given over the material collected.

Evening meals were taken at local restaurants.

While on Oahu, the students visited Pearl Harbor.

On the Big Island, the gang went on a whale watch.

The class visits Volcanoes National Park to study the recent geology of the Hawaiian Islands.

The 2007 Marine Biology class studied the humpback whale population off the coast of the big island.

The class enjoys Kona coffee after a hard day of work.

Monica really enjoyed the Korean food while on the trip.
