Professional Interests:

My research interests are in transport and communication in plants. I have spent many years studying the control of partitioning of sugars produced in the leaves to other parts of the plant, particularly to developing leaves, corn kernels and growing stems. One of my current research projects is on sun-tracking leaf movements which are reversible leaf movements in which leaves remain perpendicular to the sun throughout the day. I work with the Chemistry Department here at Rollins in identifying possible chemicals that may be involved in signaling the light response. My other current research project is in collaboration with Dr. H. McAuslane of University of Florida. We are working on the mechanism of a physiological disorder called squash silverleaf in Cucubita vegetables caused by the silverleaf whitefly.
