President Jessica Barnett



 

 

Jessica was born and raised in a small town outside of Detroit, Michigan.  In 2002, she began her professional journey at Central Michigan University of Mount Pleasant, striving to earn a Bachelor’s of Applied Arts Degree with a focus on Sports Management and Hospitality.  After scraping ice off her windshield for the last time, weather conditions influenced Jessica to follow the sunshine in search of a brighter future, Florida Bound!

She was soon introduced to the Hamilton Holt School of Rollins College and fell in love at first sight.  She is proud to say just recently completed her final semester earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Communications.  With that, she hopes to explore the world of public relations as a pharmaceutical representative, building many great relationships along the way towards success. 

Jessica is currently a very active and dedicated volunteer for the Special Olympics here in Florida, as well as the Winter Games in Michigan.  She has also been raising funds for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation since 2002.  She enjoys volunteering for several activities involving various charities and fundraisers in order to give back to her community. 

 

 

Membership Chair Jennifer Sperber-Sales

Jennifer received a bachelor’s degree in interpersonal communication and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Central Florida (UCF) in 2005. While at UCF, Jennifer was a member of Quotes the UCF student chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA).

Jennifer first joined Rollins College as a marketing and communication assistant for the Hamilton Holt School, where she developed and edited marketing materials. Presently she works as a communications assistant in the Rollins office of Public Relations. Jennifer is currently enrolled in the Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling Program at Rollins.

 

Advisor Ann Marie Varga

Ann Marie Ann Marie Varga has more than 20 years of experience in the field of public relations and media relations. As assistant vice president of public relations, she develops and manages the College’s annual communications plan, provides communications counseling to a variety of internal clients and oversees the daily activities of the Office of Public Relations. She participates in Rollins' strategic planning, monitors and manages issues, implements proactive media relations, and much more.

A native Floridian, Heather Georgoudiou receives her bachelor's degree in English and minor in Creative Writing this spring from Rollins College. 

   
Community Service Chair Ruben Carillo

Born in New York, Ruben Carrillo is a resident of College Park and majoring in organizational communication major at the Hamilton Holt School. Ruben is married to Robin Carrillo, Rollins graduate and AP psychology instructor at Edgewater High School. He is also the proud father of Ruben Jr. (age 12) and Gabriel (age 9).

For the past 18 years, he has been working in the hospitality and travel industry and currently works at Best Western International as manager of worldwide sales. Ruben has held management positions with American Airlines, Norwegian Cruise Lines and Caribe Royale Orlando Resort. He enjoys traveling the world, sushi Thai food and golf.

 

Past President Megan Carmichel

Meghan

Megan Carmichel will graduate from Rollins College in May of 2009 with a degree in organizational communication. She was born and raised in the central Florida area.  After trying out different collegiate options, she found her place in the Hamilton Holt School at Rollins College in the fall of 2006.

Megan is employed with Fry Hammond Barr, a full service advertising and public relations firm, as an assistant account executive in the account services department.  Her duties are vast and she enjoys working with her team.

She currently volunteers with Mother's Against Drunk Driving and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and is an active member of the Citrus Civitan Club of Orlando.

 

Past President Marja Kolomyski

Marja Kolomyski recently graduated from the Hamilton Holt School at Rollins with a bachelor's degree in organizational communications.  Marja began her educational journey at Rollins in 1996, but was put on hold due to being transferred out of state by her employer in 1998. She returned to Florida in 2006 to attend college full-time so that she could complete her BA at Rollins.

She brings with her 29 years of corporate experience from Sprint, where she has held positions in marketing, network operations, customer service operations, project management and consumer affairs.Marja is also a member of Lambda Pi Eta, which is the National Honor Society for communications majors.

 

Past President Chris McClure

Chris McClure recently graduated from Rollins College with a bachelor’s degree in organizational communication and a minor in business administration. He works as operations manager in the Rollins athletic department. With that position, Chris is responsible for game management, facilities operations and the marketing/promotions of Rollins athletics.

He was born and raised in White Plains, Maryland, and has most recently lived in Charlotte, North Carolina. Chris obtained dual associate of art degrees from Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte in July 2005.

Chris served as president of Communiqué during the 2006-07 academic year.

 
Communiqué Officer Positions and Responsibilities:
President – Leader of the organization. Works closely with the advisor to research and implement organization goals. Creates agenda for monthly meetings, acts as facilitator during meetings and helps with recruitment. Attends FPRA functions as time permits.
Vice President – Assists and supports the president with all efforts. Handles communications between leadership positions and serves as membership contact liaison.
Secretary – Records minutes during all meetings and e-mails them to Web Site Chair for posting on the Web.
Community Service Chair – Manages the community service efforts of the organization. Serves as contact/liaison for nonprofit organizations, sets up speakers and coordinates job shadows for interested members.
Public Relations Chair – Manages the public relations efforts of the organization. Works with advisor and president on media story pitches and external public relations.
Web Site Chair – Regularly maintains and updates the Communiqué Web site. This includes posting monthly meeting minutes, stories, calendar information, etc.
Immediate Past President – Serves as a mentor to the current president. This person is the president from the previous year.
Advisor – Rollins staff member who advises organization and guides students throughout the year.
