Crummer School Accepting Applications for the 2005 Martin Bell Scholarship

The Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College is accepting applications for the Martin Bell Scholarship, a full scholarship ($52,200) to the Rollins Executive MBA (EMBA) program. The scholarship pays for tuition, textbooks, a notebook computer and software, as well as meals, and an international study trip.

In partnership with the Rollins College Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership Center, the Crummer School annually provides funds for the Martin Bell Scholarship to be awarded to a senior-level executive of a nonprofit organization. “This scholarship acknowledges the important contributions that nonprofit organizations make in our community,” said Margaret Linnane, executive director of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership Center and a past recipient of the Bell Scholarship.

Applicants are required to submit three letters of recommendation, including one from the highest-ranking officer of their organization’s board of directors. The recipient will be selected based upon leadership qualities, performance, contributions to the community and future career objectives. The scholarship was established in 1988 in honor of Dr. Martin L. Bell, former director of the EMBA program, who was a passionate advocate of business graduates using their skills to benefit charitable organizations. The Scholarship has been awarded to 15 executives from Central Florida charities. The most recent recipient of the Bell Scholarship was Hope Kramer, president of BETA Center, a not-for-profit agency focused on teaching parenting skills to teenage mothers and at-risk families. Previous recipients are Ruth Patrick, Citrus Council of Girl Scouts; David Bundy, Children’s Home Society; Margaret Anglin, Spouse Abuse, Inc.; Hugh Quinn, American Red Cross Central Florida; Ken Heckmann, Campus Crusade for Christ; Margaret Linnane, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida; Debra Shade, Lakeside Alternatives; Nancy Carlson, American Diabetes Association; Susan Sergent-Spitz, Seniors First; Patricia Frank, Community Coordinated Care for Children; Sandy Hostetter, Central Florida Community Reinvestment Corporation; Stephanie Hutchinson, American Lung Association of Central Florida; Gary Cain, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida; and Orlando Rivera, The Hub University Church.

Established in 1982, the EMBA program is designed for managers or professionals who have at least 10 years of experience. Classes are held on alternating Fridays and Saturdays for the duration of the 21-month program. Each EMBA class takes courses together and selects electives through a group vote. This year’s class will begin with orientation on July 26, with the first classes beginning August 5, 2005.
