Rollins Professor Named to Chair in Marketing and Ethics

Mark W. Johnston, who has taught marketing at Crummer since 1993, has been appointed the first holder of the Gerry Foundation Chair of Marketing and Ethics at the Rollins College Crummer Graduate School of Business.

“Mark is a gifted teacher and exceptional scholar, who is also active in the College and Central Florida community,” said President Rita Bornstein. “It is a pleasure both to award an endowed chair to such a well-qualified recipient and to name such an outstanding professor as the first recipient of the Gerry Foundation Chair of Marketing and Ethics.”

The Gerry Foundation Chair of Marketing and Ethics was established in 2001 by the Gerry Foundation to recruit and retain a distinguished professor in marketing and ethics in the Roy E. Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College. The Gerry professor will stress the importance of ethics, including ethical marketing, in his or her teaching and scholarship and in the course work of the Gerry professor’s students.

Johnston earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business from Western Illinois University, and his doctorate from Texas A&M University. Prior to joining the Crummer faculty, he taught marketing at Louisiana State University and Texas A&M University. Johnston’s research has resulted in published articles in a number of professional journals such as Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, and many others. He is also co-author of Sales Force Management. Johnston was recently ranked by the prestigious Journal of Business Research as one of the most influential market researchers of the past 15 years.

“I want to thank the Gerry Foundation for their generous gift in support of ethical business education and research at Rollins College,” said Johnston. “In addition, I want to thank President Bornstein for her continued commitment to academic excellence at Rollins and the Crummer Graduate School of Business. I am honored and humbled to be the first recipient of the Gerry Foundation Chair of Marketing and Ethics. The Chair will make resources available to further the study and promotion of ethical business practices here and around the world.”
