Crummer School Professor Emeritus Honored by Production and Operations Management Society

The Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) board of directors named the Society's highest award in honor of Rollins College Crummer Graduate School of Business Professor Emeritus of Operations Management Martin K. Starr. The Martin K. Starr Excellence in POM Practice Award was presented to Lee Cockerell, executive vice president of operations at Walt Disney World, at the Society's annual board meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. POMS is an international professional organization representing the interests of POM professionals from around the world.

A distinguished scholar whose career spans more than four decades, Starr has achieved international recognition in the field of operations management. He has served on the faculties of Columbia University and the Crummer School and currently teaches courses in production and operations management at the Crummer School Management and Executive Education Center. He founded the Columbia University Center for the Study of Operations and served as director of the Crummer School Center for Enterprise Management. He is past president of The Institute for Management Sciences (TIMS) and POMS and served as editor-in-chief of Management Science for 15 years. Starr has lectured on a variety of topics concerned with the integration of engineering and product design with management planning and decision making. His consulting has global scope for manufacturing and service operations, and he has published more than 20 books and hundreds of contributive articles.
