Scholarship Established in Memory of Former Rollins Professor

Members of the Claudio Milman family have made a generous gift to establish the Professor Claudio Milman Memorial Scholarship at the Rollins College Crummer Graduate School of Business. The scholarship was established in memory of Milman, a highly regarded international business professor and researcher who was fatally injured while leading students on an international marketing project in Cuba in 2001.

The Milman Scholarship will award three scholarships, each valued at $4,000, during each of the next four academic years. The awards will be given to students enrolled in a full-time MBA program who hold at least a 3.2 GPA and demonstrate financial need, strong leadership skills and an interest in international business. The scholarship gift is being given by Milman’s niece, Mariela Kleiner, and her spouse Keith Kleiner, along with Milman’s nephew, Martin Flom, and his spouse Sheila Flom.

“We are saddened that students today will not get a chance to benefit from Claudio’s teaching and be inspired by his great character and passion for international business. This scholarship is a way to keep his spirit alive within the university and give more students a chance to study what he loved,” said Mariela and Keith Kleiner.

A native of Argentina, Milman joined the Rollins College faculty in 1996 as associate professor of international business. Prior to Rollins, Milman was an assistant professor of management at the Haworth College of Business at Western Michigan University. He also previously served as a visiting professor at Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea. He held a bachelor’s degree in economics from Indiana University, a master’s degree in economics from the University of Miami, a master’s degree in Latin American studies from Indiana University and a master’s degree in business administration from Ohio State University. He earned a doctorate degree in business administration and international business at Ohio State University. His teaching specialties included mergers and acquisitions, privatization in developing countries and foreign direct investment in Latin America. He also served as a consultant to Shell Oil and the Inter-American Development Bank.

Milman was lauded by his former colleagues and students for his spirit, insight and teaching style. The Crummer School dedicated a classroom in Milman’s honor in 2003. “Claudio was an exceptionally gifted teacher who left a lasting impact on his students,” said Craig McAllaster, dean of the Crummer School. “The classroom and scholarship are touching tributes to his memory.”
