Bright
Futures Changes
If you are a recipient
of the the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship, two important
changes are effective beginning with the Fall 2009 semester.
The
first change is that the amount of your scholarship will be
based on the number of credit hours. If you receive the 100%
level of Bright Futures (Florida Academic Scholar), then multiply
the number of credits by $126 per credit hour for your semester
amount. If you receive the 75% level of Bright Futures (the
Florida Medallion), then multiply the number of credits by $95
per credit hour for your semester amount. Your award letter
is based on the average enrollment (18 credits per semester
for A&S students and 12 credits per semester for Hamilton
Holt students). If you are enrolled in more than average credits
per semester, your Bright Futures Scholarship will be increased.
If you are enrolled in less than the average credits per semester,
your Bright Futures Scholarship will be decreased. We will make
these adjustments by the end of the initial add-drop period.
Calculation:
_____________ X $___________ = $______________
Hours Enrolled
$126 or $95
Semester Award
The
second change is critical to your student balance.
At the end of the initial add-drop period, your Bright Futures
Scholarship will be set. If you drop/withdraw from any credits
after this point, we are required to return the appropriate
amount back to the State of Florida , which would create a balance
due on your student account. As an example, you may enroll in
18 credits and your Bright Futures Scholarship is $2,268 ($126
X 18 credits) at the end of add-drop. Then, if you decide to
drop 4 credits at any point, $504 ($126 X 4 credits) will be
returned to the State of Florida , creating a balance on your
student account. In addition to your balance, you will not be
able to receive Bright Futures in any subsequent year until
these funds are repaid on your account.
We
highly encourage you to meet with your academic advisor if you
have any concerns about your courses. In addition, please visit
the Financial Aid Office in order to outline the financial implications
if you are considering dropping/withdrawing from even one credit
hour after the initial add-drop period.
If
you have any questions about these changes or any other financial
aid question, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
