Financial Aid Awards

Essential Next Steps:

1. Review the Financial Aid You Have Been Offered

Please review your Award Notification along with detailed information on our website at http://tars.rollins.edu/finaid/DetailedFAInfo.shtml

2. First-Time Loan Recipients Must Complete Loan Promissory Notes and Entrance Counseling

Complete a Master Promissory Note at http://dlenote.ed.gov and Entrance Counseling at https://www.dl.ed.gov

3. Submit Copies of Your 2008 Federal Tax Returns (if you have not done so already)

4. Notify the Financial Aid Office of Any Outside Scholarships Not Listed on Your Award Notification

5. Review Your Financing Options, Including the Upcoming Billing Schedule.

Use the worksheet on the Financial Aid and Billing document to estimate your balance due as well as review your financing options. Also included are the upcoming billing dates and comprehensive fee schedule.

6. Complete the Title IV Authorization Form

Rollins, in compliance with federal regulations, must obtain the voluntary permission from the student to apply Federal financial aid proceeds to pay charges related to a prior term, future term or charges other than tuition, fees, room and board on the student's account.

7. Sign up for Direct Deposit

If you are eligible for a refund, one of the best ways to receive a refund is by setting up direct deposit. Any eligible funds are directly sent to your checking or savings account.

8. Complete the Annual Statement of Financial Responsibility

9. Monitor Your Rollins Email Account for Important Updates and Changes

Email is the official communication method at Rollins. This applies to all areas of the college including changes to your financial aid award as well as your student bill.

10. Consider Setting Up an Authorized Payer

You may set up another person to also receive billing notification by Rollins along with our normal billing notice sent to your Rollins email account. Most dependent students set up their parent and most independent, married students set up their spouse as an authorized payer. By doing so, the parent or spouse will receive the bill and can make a payment on behalf of the student. When you receive your bill, simply follow the attached instructions and log into QuikPay. One of the menu options will "Authorized Payers."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How will I be notified of important financial aid information?

Please be aware that the Financial Aid Office may use electronic means to communicate with you. It is your responsibility to keep your Rollins' e-mail address current and to read messages that are sent. It is also important that you keep your mailing address and phone number current with records' officials. How is my need determined?

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) determines your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The EFC determines your eligibility for need-based aid. Items that will affect need-based aid eligibility from year-to-year include: dramatic changes to income and/or assets, changes to the number of family members in college, changes to the number of family members residing in the household…etc.

Can my award be increased?

The Office of Admission determines scholarship eligibility based on your academichistory. Need-based financial aid is awarded based on uniformly applied policies designed to distribute available resources in an equitable manner. These awards are not negotiable.

How is dependency status determined on the FAFSA?

Step 3 of the FAFSA poses 13 questions to determine whether you are dependent for financial aid purposes. If you answer “no” to all, you are dependent. The questions address your age, marital status, degree level, whether you have dependent children, emancipation, guardianship, homelessness, and military status.

What if I have unusual family circumstances?

We recognize that the need analysis process does not always consider every family situation. If your family has experienced an unusual change in financial circumstances not considered on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, you may wish to request consideration. To do this you should request a Need Analysis Review Form from our office. Complete the form and return it with the appropriate documentation. We will make every effort to incorporate these circumstances into the need analysis calculation. A review may only be conducted for circumstances that can be documented.

What other forms, in addition to the FAFSA will I need to complete?

The other forms needed to finalize your financial aid are:

  • Signed copy of your parents' 2008 income tax return
  • Signed copy of your 2008 income tax return
  • Rollins College Arts & Sciences Students' Financial Aid Application for 2009-2010
  • 2009-2010 Florida Resident Access Grant application, if applicable
