Services Provided

Our focus at DuBois Health Center is to provide high quality health care. Besides providing acute care for illness, other services include the monitoring of chronic disease processes such as asthma and diabetes, well woman care and contraception counseling (see sexual health concerns), employment physicals, immunizations and allergy injections. If additional treatment or evaluation is indicated, we have a network of local specialists available for referral.

Required immunizations: Florida Law and/or Rollins Policy require the following immunizations: Two doses of Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunization or blood tests showing evidence of immunity. Three doses of Hepatitis B. One Meningitis vaccination (Menactra). A booster dose of Tetanus-diphtheria (Td) within the past 10 years. Students must comply with the state law or they will be unable to attend classes or register for next semester. These immunization are available at the Health Center. A waiver is allowed under certain circumstances. Other immunizations are also available at the Health Center, call for availability.

Varicella. All entering college students without history of the disease (Chickenpox) or without age appropriate immunization or with negative antibody titer should have the Varicella vaccine.

Tuberculosis. Screening is suggested for entering students especially those who have recently traveled abroad. A Mantoux (PPD) test is the only acceptable screening. This is available at the Health Center. Students must return 48 hours after placement for completion and validation of the test.

Allergy Injections. Students may receive their desensitization injections using the antigens supplied by their allergist. Prior to the first injection at the Student Health Services (SHS), all allergy students must make an appointment with the Nurse Practitioner (NP) to review SHS allergy policy & procedure. A letter from the allergist including instructions for administration and a written acknowledgement of acceptance of the SHS allergy policy ( a Nurse Practitioner supervises the allergy injection procedure)  is required to be on file in the student's health record prior to initiating allergy injections at the SHS. Also, students must remain at the SHS for 20 minutes after each injection.

Sexual Health Concerns. Routine gynecological care, including pap smears and breast exams can be scheduled. Birth control information, pregnancy testing and emergency contraception are available. STD testing is available for both men and women. The SHS is a State of Florida registered HIV counseling and testing site. When making appointments for STD and HIV testing, and you are asked for a reason, feel free to state "for personal reasons," and the subject will be dropped. Lesbian, bisexual and gay health concerns are addressed with sensitivity.
