Dr. Gabriel Ignacio Barreneche  Associate Professor of Spanish  (407) 691-1770

Dr. Gabriel Barreneche received his B.A. degree in Spanish and International Studies from Boston College and participated in that institution’s study abroad program at the Universidad de San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador.  After completing his undergraduate degree, Dr. Barreneche moved to San Diego, California, and worked in a housing program for migrant farm workers through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps.  He then returned to academia and completed his M.A. and Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literatures at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).  Dr. Barreneche’s academic interests include contemporary Caribbean and Latin American literature, U.S. Latino literature, as well as instructional technology and the pedagogy of engaged learning.

Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, University of Central Florida. Master of Arts in Spanish, University of Central Florida (expected July 2009). She focused her studies on foreign language education, Latin American literature and Spanish linguistics. Before starting her teaching career at Rollins college, Ms. Bay taught Spanish in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program with Seminole County Public Schools for two and a half years and holds a professional teaching certificate in Spanish from the state of Florida. Her interests include second language acquisition and Hispanic literature in the U.S.

Gladys Colón      Spanish Lecturer  (407) 975-6478

M.A. in Spanish from the University of Central Florida. B.A. degree in Education with a major in History from Universidad Metropolitana in Puerto Rico.  Taught United States and World History in Puerto Rico and Spanish at the University of Central Florida and Seminole County Public Schools.  Former Associate Member of the American Translators Association. Holds Professional Teaching certificate from the State of Florida. Worked as Assistant to the Coordinator of the ESOL/Foreign Language Department of Seminole County Public Schools. Teaching interests include Spanish language with an emphasis on grammar and the use of technology.

   

Dr. Rosana Díaz-Zambrana  Associate Professor of Spanish  (407) 646-2143

Dr. Rosana Díaz-Zambrana completed her B.A. in Comparative Literature at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez where she was born and raised.   She earned her M.A. & Ph.D. degrees at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, also in Comparative Literature.  She focused her studies on Modern Latin American Literature, more particularly, on contemporary Brazilian and Southern Cone narratives. Before coming to Rollins, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.  She has presented papers in national and international conferences on memory, exile and the notions of home in contemporary authors.  Her teaching interests include Latin American narratives that deal with trauma and memory; film and culture. Licenciado en Filosofía y Letras University of Valladolid, Spain. M. A. in Spanish, Arizona State University. Ph. D. in Spanish, Vanderbilt University. Teaching fields: Hispanic Literatures (XVI-XVII Centuries), Spanish Film and Civilization. Dr. Prieto-Calixto has presented numerous papers at professional national and international conferences, including presentations on film, literature, and pedagogy. Dr. Patricia Tomé   Assistant Professor of Spanish   (407) 691-1379

Patricia Tomé received her B.A. in Spanish and Journalism from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. After completing her degree, she worked as a journalist at Univisión, a Spanish-language TV network in New York. She earned her M.A. and Ph.D. from The University of Kansas. She has taught at Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (Spain), Oklahoma City Community College and Instituto de Línguas en Vitória, Brasil. Her teaching interests include 20th and 21st century Latin American Literature, Cuban and Cuban American literatures and film, and modern Latin American and Peninsular drama.
