Faculty

The Rollins graduate faculty includes nationally prominent professors who remain active as practitioners. Counseling faculty must have doctoral degrees in their respective fields in order to serve as instructors in the graduate counseling program. Full-time faculty are active in professional organizations including the American Counseling Association, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the American Psychological Association, and the Association for Women in Psychology. Adjunct faculty are practitioners, bringing contemporary issues in clinical practice to the classroom. In addition to their reputation for professional excellence, Rollins faculty are known for their enthusiasm and respect for adult learners.

Alicia M. Homrich, Ph.D.

Associate Professor of Counseling and Department Chair. B.S., M.S., Florida International University; M.A., Rollins College; Ph.D., University of Georgia, Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, National Certified Counselor

Dr. Homrich is a graduate of the Rollins College Graduate Studies in Counseling program (1992). Her greatest interest is in the area of family therapy, with special emphasis on family strengths and resiliency. Prior to completing her training, Dr. Homrich was a family and consumer science educator with the University of Florida. Areas of professional interest include group work, family therapy, family strengths, solution-focused brief therapy, and counselor training and supervision. Dr. Homrich teaches internship, group work courses, and the family and relationship therapy series of courses.

Professor of Counseling. B.S., Georgia Southwestern College; Ph.D., University of Minnesota, Licensed Psychologist, National Certified Counselor

The emphasis of Dr. Norsworthy's training is child and family psychology. In 1992, Dr. Norsworthy completed a three year APA-approved post doctoral respecialization in Counseling Psychology at the University of Georgia. Her specialties include clinical work with adults with post traumatic stress disorder and chronic and life threatening illnesses, especially HIV infection. Additional areas of clinical expertise are international and multi cultural applications in counseling and peace building, feminist theory and practice, integration of Buddhist psychology in western psychotherapy and counselor training, mindfulness in health and healing, and gay/lesbian/bi/transsexual (GLBT) affirmative counseling. Dr. Norsworthy loves to travel and has spent considerable time conducting research, consultation, and activism as well as peace building in Asia, particularly India and Southeast Asia. She teaches clinical practicum, family and relationship counseling, clinical hypnosis, and multicultural counseling.

Professor Provost's teaching and research interests include Jungian concepts, psychological type, student development, teaching learning styles and strategies, developmental psychology, individual and group counseling processes and skills, work/play lifestyles, and dream work. Before becoming a full time faculty member at Rollins in 1994, Professor Provost served for 17 years as Director of Lakeside Health and Counseling Services. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and National Certified Counselor.

Professor of Counseling. B.A., M.Ed., University of West Georgia; Ed.D., Indiana University, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, National Certified Counselor, Certified Eating Disorders Specialist, Certified Group Psychotherapist, Diplomate of the American Psychotherapy Association, Certified Sports Counselor, Authentic Happiness Coach.

Prior to coming to Rollins in 1978, Dr. Shafe was on the faculty at Ohio University. In addition, she has taught at Boston University Overseas, Indiana University, Purdue University Indianapolis, and Macon State University in Georgia. Professional interests include resiliency, positive psychology, college student well being, eating disorders, relationship issues, clinical supervision, life coaching, group processes, addictions, crisis intervention, lifespan development, career counseling, and psycho neuro immunology. Most recently she has completed certification in Positive Psychology and teaches a related course in the undergraduate psychology program.

Assistant ProfessorDerrick A. Paladino, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Counseling. B.S., M.Ed., Ed.S., University of Florida; Ph.D., University of Arkansas, Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor

Originally from Connecticut, Dr. Paladino earned his Masters and Specialist degrees in Mental Health Counseling at the University of Florida prior to completing his doctorate in Counselor Education at the University of Arkansas in 2004. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor. Throughout his training Dr. Paladino has gained experience in crisis and emergency services, college counseling, addictions, and has worked in community/agency settings. Dr. Paladino's clinical specialties lie in crisis/suicide assessment and intervention, college student development, group counseling, identity development, and clinical supervision. His research interests fall in the areas of multiracial identity and acculturation, college student adjustment, counselor education and supervision, and crisis assessment and intervention.

Each adjunct holds a doctoral level degree, has clinical experience in the field of counseling, and may bring with them specializations that enhance the program content that they teach. Rebecca is the Coordinator of Records and Registration. Her office is located in the Hamilton Holt School Building at 203 East Lyman Avenue in downtown Winter Park (located across Fairbanks Avenue on the other side of the Rollins College Parking Garage).

The Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the Graduate Studies programs - from the initial inquiry through registration and graduation.
