Hamilton Holt School
Peer mentoring program

The Hamilton Holt School Peer Mentoring program presents a unique opportunity for leaders to emerge within the Holt School community.  This highly esteemed program enables qualified individuals to develop effective listening skills and to draw from personal experiences and/or expertise to guide aspiring leaders toward a new standard of excellence.

Program Overview

Peer mentoring relationships typically begin with a focus on academic success and its associated scholarship opportunities, and then expand to non-academic pursuits that may include, but are not limited to, personal and professional areas of common interests.  Ultimately, these relationships lead to networking opportunities, which can be beneficial for career development as well as community involvement.

Effective peer mentors know the value of leading by example and therefore live with purpose and integrity. They are able to empathize with, encourage, and empower others, fostering personal growth and innovation as they work diligently, achieving their goals.

Finding a Peer Mentor

Students seek mentoring relationships for a wide variety of reasons. Whether you are looking for structure, creativity, a sounding board, etc., you will be matched with a mentor who will serve to bring out your best. You may need help with specific, short-term goals, or you may want to develop a long-term relationship entails more abstract qualities. Mentoring relationships are very helpful in these as well as other areas:

  • Academic excellence
  • Scholarship qualification
  • Time management
  • Communication skills
  • Goal setting and realization
  • New student orientation issues
  • At-risk issues
  • Cultural integration
  • Provisional student development
  • Organization skills
  • Prioritizing multiple responsibilities
  • Networking opportunities

To begin this experience as a mentee, please send an email with mentee in the subject heading to HoltMentor@rollins.edu, explaining why you want or need a mentoring relationship. You can also leave a message at 407-691-1160.

Becoming a Peer Mentor

Applicants enter the Holt Peer Mentoring program as prospective peer mentors. Selected prospective peer mentors are paired with a current peer mentor for a minimum of one full summer, fall, or spring term. During this time, they meet with their designated peer mentor for one hour per week, actively engaging in mutually beneficial, multi-dimensional interactions, which focus on purposefully managing principles, empathy, empowerment, and resources to achieve results.

When prospective peer mentors have clearly demonstrated successful realization of the program requirements, they will be invited to become peer mentors and will be considered fully prepared to be matched with students in need of a mentoring relationship. And, because of the multi-dimensional and multi-level design of the program, peer mentors are encouraged to specialize in areas of their choosing, growing accordingly with the opportunity to continue to contribute to the Holt School student leadership culture well beyond graduation.
