Staff Recognition
Something to Crow About....
On July 22, 2005, Dean Sharon Carrier introduced the new “Something
to Crow About” monthly
award to
recognize Holt staff for outstanding professional achievement in providing
excellent service to Holt students and bringing positive recognition to the Holt
School. Whoever receives this award will be
in charge of selecting the next recipient as well as
making the surprise announcement
and presenting the recipient with
the Rollins Rooster at the next month’s staff meeting.
Once the rooster was presented it was determined a name would
be needed. This task also fell to the first recipient.
Immediately a memory was struck – rooster? – proud? – Chanticleer! (SHON-tic-lear).
From
Chaucer's literary classic, The Canterbury Tales: The Nun's
Priest Tale - "For
crowing there was not his equal in all the land. His
voice was merrier than the merry organ that plays in
church, and his crowing from his resting place was
more trustworthy than a clock."
So, if you happen to see Chanticleer perched atop
a desk at the Holt School, know it is a symbol of a
similar merry crow boasting the accomplishment of
its keeper.
