The Offices of Multicultural Affairs, Community Engagement and Student Involvement and Leadership have similar Office missions and goals in preparing Rollins students for active and responsible citizenship.
Until now, however, they had never intentionally collaborated in achieving these goals. To help students realize that the areas of service, diversity and leadership are related, these three offices made the novel collaboration in developing IMPACT, a program that highlights their common learning outcomes:
- Construct meaning that reflects cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions of learning.
- Develop an awareness of self by examining, understanding, testing and challenging one's own beliefs, values, attitudes, and behaviors.
- Develop character through the practice of ethical, just, honest, and respectful behaviors.
- Understand and appreciate the value of human differences and diversity.
- Recognize the manifestations of prejudice, unequal power, and marginalization and develop the skills to challenge and confront them.
- Engage in meaningful and reflective dialogues and initiatives across difference.
- Create positive social change through a shared responsibility in support of the common good.
IMPACT has facilitated another important connection. With Community Engagement housed under Academic Affairs and Student Involvement and Multicultural Affairs housed under Student Affairs, this creation has helped bridge the gap that often exists between the two divisions.
