The individual program application is required in addition to a RIPA as well as any other Rollins forms. All program applications should be submitted to International Programs and then applications will be sent to the appropriate program.


Hollins University was among the first colleges in the nation to offer an international study program in Paris in 1955. A distinctive study abroad program, it is designed to be flexible in curriculum and builds around the interests of students. You will experience the city of Paris with courses that take you right into the daily lives of its inhabitants. This program is available to students at an intermediate level of French. All courses are taught in French. This program is available in fall or spring semester or for a full year. Students must have the approval of the Rollins French Department.
College Year in Athens provides the student with the resources to achieve a comprehensive knowledge of Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean. It is administered for Rollins by Southwestern University. Even though the program is best suited for students studying the classics, majors in anthropology/ethnography, art history, European studies, history, international relations, literature, philosophy, political science and religious studies are also welcomed. Classes are taught in English and include field trips to historical sites and museums. Students must have the endorsement of Dr. Robert Vander Poppen.

Hong Kong Baptist University offers courses in 40 majors in the areas of Arts, Business Administration, Science, Social Sciences and Social Work. Many classes are taught in English, and students enroll directly in university classes. Accommodation is provided in an international student residence hall. Click Here for information about available courses. HKBU has an exchange relationship with 53 US colleges and universities, including Rollins, Furman, Stetson, and Birmingham Southern. Each partner institution sends HKBU one to four students per semester.

The Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome
The Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome (ICCS) was established in 1965 by representatives of 10 American colleges and universities; the number of member institutions has now grown to over 100. It provides undergraduate students with an opportunity in Rome to study ancient history and archaeology, Greek and Latin literature, and ancient art. Many classicists currently in the field are alumni of the ICCS Rome program and look back fondly on their experience at the Centro.

Trinity College/Rome Campus, established in 1970, offers an outstanding educational opportunity in the heart of one of the world’s great cities, where glorious treasures and haunting ruins of several magnificent civilizations are stage to a vibrant, modern capital. Students enjoy a superb location, excellent teachers, a broad liberal arts curriculum, stimulating fieldwork in Rome, the city’s lively cosmopolitan culture, and faculty led academic excursions to Venice, Florence, and Naples/Pompeii/Capri. Option: Sharp clusters in Public Affairs (economics, modern history, and politics) and in Ancient Culture and Classics.

Lancaster University is a leading teaching and research university, recently ranked ninth among all UK universities as a research institution. Commitments to a high standard of undergraduate and post graduate teaching and to research reinforce one another and make possible a wide variety of specialized courses. Lancaster is noted for its innovative curricula, and pioneered a number of subjects and interdisciplinary courses in Britain, most notably a program in Women's Studies. Students may attend for the academic year, fall or spring semesters. Students attending during the fall semester should also enroll in the summer pre-session program.

Washington Semester: The Washington Semester Program lets students intern in Washington while taking seminars with guest speakers from the realms of foreign and domestic politics, law and jurisprudence, international business and trade, journalism, economic policy, peace and conflict resolution, and more. Students live on campus at American University located in the Georgetown area. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required. Students must receive the endorsement and recommendation from Dr.Gunter in the Political Science Department.

Morocco: Multiculturalism and Human Rights
Examine Islam as a system of thought, Morocco's political system and monarchy, and the country's place in the Middle East and in African, Berber, and Arab cultures. Additional studies focus on women's place within Moroccan society and contemporary development challenges. This nation's history and culture reflect the influences of a long succession of invaders and settlers as well as the indigenious Berbers, who make up half of Morocco's population.
Morocco: Migration and Transnational Identity
This program explores the complex effects of human mobility on local communities, global politics, and transnational economies. Students are encouraged to consider migration both in the cultural context of Morocco as well as in relation to North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and the European Union.
Brazil: Amazon Resource Management and Human Ecology
Explore the conflict between finite ecological resources and seemingly infinite human development demands on the Amazon River Basin. Covering an area roughly the size of Australia, this complex and delicately balanced ecosystem contains the world’s largest tropical forest, its second-longest river, and an extraordinary diversity of plant and animal life.
Brazil: Social Justice and Sustainable Development
Students examine the multifaceted dynamics shaping development patterns in northeastern Brazil, including social, political, and economic forces. Through thematic coursework, educational excursions, field study, and independent research students gain exceptional insight into the socioeconomic challenges facing the region's diverse populations. Cultural immersion in both urban and rural settings provides students with additional perspectives on the impact national and international socioeconomic and political policies are having on northeast Brazil.
Brazil: Public Health, Race and Human Rights
Students examine emerging health care issues in Brazil, particularly those related to the country's African Diaspora population which comprises approximately 50 percent of Brazil's population. Sharply focused on issues of access and inclusion, the program examines Brazil's health care system in the context of institutionalized racism, poverty and social exclusion.

Duke Marine Lab The Marine Laboratory is a campus of Duke University and a unit within the Nicholas School of the Environment. The mission is education, research, and service to understand marine systems, including the human component, and to develop approaches for marine conservation and restoration. Today, the Marine Laboratory operates year-round to provide educational, training, and research opportunities to about 3,500 persons annually, including undergraduate, graduate and professional students enrolled in the university's academic programs; visiting student groups who use the laboratory's facilities; and scientists who come from North America and abroad to conduct their own research. A seminar/lecture series features many distinguished scientific speakers from across the nation and abroad.

Eligibility
These programs require a minimum GPA of 3.0 and admission is competitive. Most programs require Junior standing. See the Office of International Programs with questions.
Academic requirements
Credits earned abroad on these programs count toward your Rollins degree. Courses and grades are listed on your Rollins transcript and are counted in your cumulative GPA. General Education requirements, major and minor requirements may be fulfilled with prior approval, by completing the Permission to Study Outside the College of Arts & Sciences form which is available on Student Records' web site.
Language preparation
There is no language requirement for Hong Kong Baptist University. Hollins University requires a minimum of a B average in order to be considered for the Hollins in Paris program. In addition, the Rollins French Department requires an intermediate level and must give approval. SIT Brazil program, while Portuguese is not required, prefers that students have a working knowledge of a romance language such as Spanish.
Financial aid
All financial aid programs used for attendance on campus can be used for these programs, except for work study, talent scholarships awarded by academic or athletic departments (which require the approval of the department), and VA benefits. Departments offering talent scholarships are not required to exempt the student from performance obligations required of scholarship recipients or approve the scholarship for study abroad. To qualify for assistance the students must meet the same eligibility criteria that are otherwise required.
Application
You must apply online via FoxLink by creating a RIPA. Do not apply directly to the program. Admission is competitive, so it is a good idea to apply early. The application deadline for all programs is September 30, 2009 for Spring Semester 2010 and February 5, 2010for Fall Semester 2010. The individual program application is required in addition to a RIPA as well as any other Rollins forms.
Application fee and Program Deposit
Students must pay the $25 application fee and $1000 program deposit by the application deadline. Rollins will then bill the students for the Rollins comprehensive fee for the semester abroad. The $1000 program deposit will be placed on your student account to offset your Rollins semester charges. All students are required to attend a mandatory orientation program.
Student status
Students participating in these programs are registered at Rollins during their period of study abroad. You will be sent registration instructions during your term away via email so that you may register for courses at Rollins for the following semester. |
