Blackboard
Policies at Rollins College
June 4, 2003
1) Use of Blackboard:
Blackboard is used in Rollins College classes ONLY.
If you are interested in using something with similar Blackboard tools,
we suggest using the groups feature in Campus Pipeline. The Information
Technology web site (http://www.rollins.edu/it) should have information
available on how to use this feature or contact the Help Desk for assistance.
2) Creation of Courses:
Courses are created in Blackboard by faculty request. Faculty are requested
to fill out a Blackboard Course Request Form located at http://www.rollins.edu/it/blackboard/bbcourserequest.shtml
if s/he needs a course created on Blackboard. Please complete these
requests at least two days before the start of the term needed.
3) Creation of Student Accounts:
New and returning students are added to Blackboard three times at the
beginning of a semester. These students are brought in from Banner and
are added to the correct course according to the course reference number
(CRN). The three times are usually one week prior to the beginning of
the semester, one day before the beginning of the semester, and the
last day of the add/drop period.
If a student adds or drops during the first week of school or after
this week, the instructor should add or remove the student from his/her
Blackboard course. If a faculty member attempts to add a student and
cannot find that student in the Blackboard database, the Blackboard
Administrator should be contacted by e-mail at blackboard@rollins.edu.
Be sure to include the following information in the e-mail: the student’s
name, R-card number, and course reference number (CRN) the student needs
to be enrolled in.
4) Blackboard Account and Password Information:
The Blackboard username is your Rollins e-mail ID (ex. jdoe). The initial
Blackboard password is your R-card number with the R capitalized. Students
and faculty are encouraged to change their passwords because anyone
could find an R-card lying around somewhere (if you leave it somewhere
by accident). Once the password is changed, be sure to remember it and
do not give it to anyone else to use.
If a student or faculty member forgets his/her password, contact the
Blackboard Administrator at blackboard@rollins.edu to have your password
reset. Please allow 24 hours for password resets during the week. If
you request a password reset on a weekend, please wait until Monday
for the request to be completed.
5) Guest Access Disabled:
Since Blackboard is only used for Rollins courses, guest access has
been disabled. Only a current Rollins College student is allowed to
access the Blackboard site with the use of his/her designated username
and password. If you have a guest who needs access, contact the Blackboard
Administrator at blackboard@rollins.edu for the possible options.
6) Edit Personal Information Unavailable After First 2 Weeks of School:
If you want your students to change any of the items in personal information,
be sure to tell them to do this during the first two weeks of school.
This tool is disabled after the first two weeks of school due to security
reasons.
7) Problems with Blackboard Accounts or Blackboard Server:
If you encounter any problems with Blackboard, please fill out the
Blackboard Problem Report Form at http://www.rollins.edu/it/blackboard/bbproblem.shtml.
The only way the Blackboard Administrator will know about your problem
is for you to fill out the form.
Your other option is to call the Information Technology Help Desk to
let them know there is a Blackboard problem. They will answer any question
you have or will contact the appropriate person if they don’t
know the answer to your question. Help desk hours are typically the
following during the fall and spring terms:
Sunday 2-10 P.M.
Monday-Thursday 8:30 A.M.-9:30 P.M.
Friday 8:30 A.M.-5 P.M.
You can contact the Help Desk by phone at 407-628-6363 (faculty) or
407-646-2655 (students) or see them in person in Olin Library Room 104.
8) End of Semester Duties:
At the end of the school year (May), you will be asked if you want your
course archived, deleted, or imported. The Blackboard Administrator
will send three e-mails in April or May to this effect. To read about
your three options, carefully take a look at http://www.rollins.edu/it/blackboard/endofsemester.shtml
to make your decision. If you do not respond to one of these e-mails,
your course(s) will be deleted.
