Online Surplus
Computers
DISPOSAL OF COMPUTERS:
By College policy, I.T. cannot donate computers; we must make every
effort to maximize the value of this equipment. Sales are now
performed online.
to access the surplus site. Equipment is priced to match its
expected length of service- for example, if a laptop should last 4 years
and has been used for 3 years, we would generally charge ¼ of
the original price for the equipment. Exceptions are made when features
have been added, something isn’t functioning properly, or when
there is a large quantity of the same equipment. Desktops are usually
priced substantially lower than laptops because of their initial price
and their expected lifespan.
The equipment on the surplus site is continually updated. There
is a 2-week period that the machines are posted. The general
guideline of how the surplus sale is as follows:
- After selecting a machine you'd like to purchase, you can place
a bid. There are min and max prices for each machine. If
you don't want to wait until the end of the sale, simply select the
max price.
- After the 2-week period has gone by or if you chose the max
buyout option, the highest bidder will be notified by email with the
price of the machine they purchased. They will also be emailed
instructions on how to pay and pick up the machine.
- The winner has 2 weeks to make arrangements to pay/pick up the
machine. If nothing is heard from the winner, the machine will
be put back in the surplus auction.
