As the 12th president of Rollins College, Thaddeus Seymour transformed the College through fund-raising efforts, enhanced academic excellence of liberal arts education and strengthened the relationship with the local community. Thad is widely known as an inspiring teacher, a caring counselor, a supportive friend and a leading citizen of the community. In 1994, Seymour received the Citizens Award from the Sullivan Committee.  Three years later, in 1997, he and his wife, Polly, became Winter Park’s Citizens of the Year, in recognition of their continued service in the community.

Vicki LongVicki Long, administrative assistant in the Rollins Psychology Department, was the 2007 recipient of the Thaddeus Seymour Award for Community Engagement for her efforts in the prevention of suicide.  In honor of the memory, passion, and commitment to her father, who committed suicide in 2004, she started the “Out of Darkness Walk” in Baldwin Park.  For this year’s walk, Vicki personally recruited and organized hundreds of members in the Central Florida community and raised $42,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
