First-Year Students

What sorts of events can you expect during your first year at Rollins College:

WPRK Marathon
The WPRK Marathon is an annual fundraising event held by Rollins’ radio station, WPRK 91.5fm. This tradition began in 2005 with the 110 Hours Marathon. One crazy DJ, Dave, was on air for 110 hours straight without sleep trying to break the Guinness World Record. Subsequest marathons may not keep a DJ awake for a week, but they wild events. Visit the station or tune in anytime to hear live bands, interviews, trivia, and various other radio antics. For more information, email wprkfm@rollins.edu.

Rollins After Dark
Rollins After Dark is a new initiative on campus hosted by All Campus Events (ACE) that focuses on alternative late-night programming to increase student involvement and enhance student life on campus. There are three RAD events hosted each semester which are typically held on the last Friday of each month from 10:00 PM - 1:00 AM, and are free to all Rollins students, faculty, and staff. The program is designed to supply exciting entertainment and events for students on Friday nights who wish to stay on campus as well as to provide a safe environment for students to return to if they have decided to go out off campus. Each event hosts innovative forms of entertainment and student activities followed by a free breakfast buffet for everyone who attends. RAD provides entertainment for the students, by the students.

Holiday FunFest
Holiday FunFest is an annual event held by the Office of Community Engagement [link to: http://www.rollins.edu/communityengagement]. A group of Central Florida foster children spend one special afternoon in early December at Rollins for a multi-cultural winter holiday celebration. Each child is paired with a “buddy” from the Rollins community for a day of games, activities, and gift giving. For more information, to donate gifts, or to volunteer as a “buddy”, contact Meredith Hein (mhein@rollins.edu).

Snowed In
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Snowed In is OSIL's signature welcome-back event of the Spring semester. Snowed In 2008; Year of the Snowman turned the Campus Center into a wonderland of falling snow, snowmen, s'mores, and hot cocoa. Photobooths, Hypnotists, casino games and trivia contest provide all night entertainment. Student organizations play a huge role in this all-night event, providing board game contests, karaoke, dance lessons, trivia, and movies. Want to join the planning team? Campus Movie Fest
The first annual Campus Movie Fest was held on Rollins' campus in February 2006. An astounding success, more than 40 pre-registered teams were provided equipment for and produced 5-minute films in categories ranging from comedy to drama to documentary. The Arts and Sciences, Holt, and Crummer students, faculty, and staff attended the premiere of the event in the Cornell Campus Center, which featured the top 16 films a celebrity look-alike contest, spotlights and a red carpet. See all the Rollins films and videos from around the world here.

Lip Sync
Arguably one of Rollins College’s biggest traditions, Lip Sync brings the campus community together for an evening of friendly competition. Greeks and student organizations battle it out for the Lip Sync trophy, currently held by ATO!

Rollins College Leadership Exchange
April 1st, 2006 saw the first student-led Leadership Conference on Rollins' campus, planned and hosted by the LEAD Team. With more than 100 student leaders in attendance, this Saturday conference was jam-packed with excitement- with over 20 motivational breakout sessions. In addition, each participant was given a 'passport' at check-in, which was exchanged at the end of the day for a free ticket to Universal Studios! The theme of the 2006 conference: Life, It Comes at You Fast was explored from a variety of angles- and the journey will continue at the 2008 Rollins College Leadership Exchange (RCLE)!

Fox Day
One of the unique traditions on the Rollins campus, Fox Day takes place once every spring. On this day, chosen by the President of the college, all classes are canceled, giving students, faculty, and staff a surprise day off. This day is marked not by a formal announcement, but by the placement of the fox statue on Mills Lawn, so keep an eye out for it this spring!
