Independent Research ServicesFoundations, corporate giving programs and individual benefactors often spend valuable time researching issues related to community needs, “best practices” and other issues that enhance the decision-making process. To assist them in this fact-gathering function, the Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership Center has established a research design and management capability. The largest and most notable project to-date is the study, Economic Contribution of Florida Nonprofit Organizations: A Resource for the Public Good, funded by the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation and the Jessie Ball duPont Fund. It found that in 1999 nonprofits (excluding religious organizations) generated $61 billion to the state’s economy, directly employed 430,000 full-time employees and spurred 88 million hours of volunteer time—equal to the work of 42,000 full-time employees. This data has resulted in significant statewide coverage on the importance of the nonprofit sector to the well-being of the state and its residents. Click here for the complete report.
