The Center for Prelaw Advising The Center for Prelaw
Advising is under the directorship of Marvin Newman, Professor of
Communication and Legal Studies
|
|
Professor Newman has been a practicing trial attorney and
teacher of law courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels at
Rollins College for over thirty years. The Center is located in the Cornell
Social Sciences Building, Room 147. Hours are by appointment.
Students who have an interest (even if not a confirmed decision) in
attending law school following graduation from Rollins College are
encouraged to register at the Center for Prelaw Advising early in the
freshman year. Those students will at their request receive assistance
in their years at Rollins in addressing questions, choosing courses, and
otherwise preparing for law school.
The special features offered by the Center for Prelaw Advising are
outlined in this book. Each student may elect to enjoy these and the
other offerings of the Center throughout their years at Rollins. The
Center's offerings include:
 |
Programs designed especially for students interested in the study
of law. Leading judges, lawyers, public figures, and others will,
from time to time, meet with students in individual conference and
also address groups of students. |
 |
Important films dealing with the intricacies of the law and the
role of the American lawyer bring students with a common interest
together. Following each film a discussion led by a faculty member,
student, or faculty-student panel will engage students in
conversation about the issues presented in the film. Refreshments
are served to 2 foster informal discussions among students and
faculty. |
 |
Luncheons, dinners, and picnics bring students together to share
common interests and concerns about their mutual goals in pursuing
law as a career. |
 |
Practice LSAT examinations are offered and scored. Students
receive individual conference analysis and guidance in preparing for
the "real" test (taken in the junior year as described in
this book). |
 |
Personal advising is offered to students throughout their Rollins
years. The process includes counseling for students uncertain about
a legal career or related goals and assistance in choosing a major
area of study and courses. |
 |
Assistance is offered for securing special internships, clerkships
with local law firms, and summer employment in the courts or with
law firms. In addition, guidance is provided for those who wish to
consider as an alternative to a arrange an area studies major
related to the study of law rather than to pursue the traditional
majors offered by the College. |
The Center keeps in touch with leading law schools and keeps students
who are registered with the Center current on law school requirements. |
