1. Rollins College is accredited by the Commission
on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools [1866
Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia, 30033-4097; telephone (404) 679-4501]. "The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools is the regional body for the accreditation
of higher education institutions in the southern states (Alabama,
Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina,
South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia) and Latin America
awarding associate, baccalaureate, master's, or doctoral degrees." (SACS,
2001, Principles
of accreditation: Foundations for quality enhancement--a proposal)
2. From its founding in 1885, Rollins has grown from a small liberal
arts institution to a comprehensive college with more than 3,500
students. The College
of Arts & Sciences curriculum, which includes twenty-nine
major fields of study and more than sixteen hundred courses, leads
to the Artium Baccalaureus degree. The Hamilton
Holt School of Rollins offers associate and baccalaureate degrees
as well as professional development courses and graduate programs
leading to master's degrees in counseling, corporate communication
and technology, education, human resources, liberal studies, and
teaching. The Roy
E. Crummer Graduate School of Business offers the MBA program
in four different formats.
3. Reaffirmation planning is currently underway at Rollins College
to prepare for the Compliance Certification and
the Quality Enhancement Plan reports due to SACS
in 2004 and 2005, respectively. The On-Site Peer Review Committee
will visit Rollins in Spring 2005.
4. The President and the Vice President for Academic Affairs and
Provost endorse and support the reaffirmation effort by serving
on the Accreditation Leadership Team. The College
has appointed the Assistant Provost for Planning and Special Projects
to chair the Accreditation Leadership Team and to serve as the Accreditation
Liaison.
5. The results of the strategic
planning process currently underway at Rollins will play a vital
role in supporting the Rollins reaffirmation effort. Students, trustees,
alumni, and staff have contributed to the creation of a new vision
statement, a recrafted mission statement, and nine priorities: academic
excellence, alignment, diversity, facilities, financial resource
development and management, mission-driven assessment, quality of
student life, quality of work life, and transformative education.
The work of the All-College Planning and Priorities Committee, under
the direction of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost,
will culminate in a final plan by Spring 2003.
6. "Consistent with the purpose set forth in the 1885 Charter
of the College, Rollins continues to prepare students for 'virtuous
and useful lives.' The future of Rollins College depends on its
excellence--the quality of the educational experience, the quality
of students and faculty, the quality of individual performance,
and the quality of our life and work together" (College of
Arts & Sciences Catalogue, 2003).
