GRAPHIC STANDARDS

A strong, consistent graphic identity is essential for the College to communicate successfully its central mission, character, and tradition to its various constituencies. Rollins’ graphic identity program is designed to bring continuity to the College’s publications so they appear to be part of the same “family.” The graphic program centers on the standard use of color, fonts, and the College’s wordmark, seal, and logo.

Wordmark

The Rollins College wordmark must appear on the front cover of all Rollins publications designed for external audiences and on College advertisements appearing in external media. The wordmark is set in Palatino small caps. Letters should not be boldfaced or spaced apart. Stacking the word "Rollins" on top of the word "College" is not advised and will be allowed only when design or space constraints dictate.

Schools, programs, and departments of the College may emphasize their name on publication covers as long the Rollins College wordmark also appears on the cover. Formal wordmarks, which typically appear on the back cover or mail panel, must combine the name of the school, program, or department with the Rollins nameplate. These logos must be approved by the director of publications. Click here to download high-res versions of the official college wordmark.

Seal

The official seal of Rollins College must appear on all external publications and on all ads appearing in external media. On publication covers, the seal may appear as part of the official College logo (see “Logo”) or as a separate design element, but it should not be altered in any way. The seal is an important element in the College’s graphic identity, and it is recommended that it be used on the cover of all publications. The seal should always appear on the back cover or mail panel with the Rollins wordmark.

Both the open- or filled-ring versions of the seal are acceptable. Electronic versions (for PC or Mac) in both one- and two-color formats can be obtained from Print Services at 407-646-2332. Click here to download high-res versions of the official college seal.

Logo

The official logo combines the seal of the College with the Rollins wordmark. A fine rule is positioned immediately below the wordmark and extends slightly beyond the wordmark on the right to give the logo balance. Together, these design elements form the "signature" of Rollins College. It is imperative that they be applied consistently and accurately on printed materials representing the College.

The Rollins logo can be obtained in digital form for PC or Mac from Print Services. Either the open- or filled-ring version of the seal may be used in the logo. The seal may not be altered in any way.

It is suggested that the logo be used primarily as an identifier rather than as a major design element. The department, program, or location identifier may be incorporated into the logo by positioning it just below the rule and lowering the seal slightly to achieve balance. Final logo setup must be approved by the director of publications. Click here to download high-res versions of the official college logo.

Colors

The official Rollins colors are PMS 540 Blue and PMS 872 metallic gold. They are used on the official College letterhead and should be used often as the dominant colors on printed materials aimed at external audiences. PMS 541 blue may be substituted for PMS 540. Because of the limitations of metallic ink, PMS 142 Gold or PMS 143 yellow may be substituted for PMS 872.

While the frequent use of blue and gold is important to Rollins’ institutional identity, it is recognized that color variation can enhance design and help ensure that publications are noticed, particularly in the case of sequential pieces or materials that have similar design and rely on color to distinguish them. Colors should be selected carefully to ensure that the publication reflects the character and sophistication of Rollins College.

Typestyles

The Rollins family of fonts includes Palatino, Century Oldstyle, Times, Helvetica, Arial, and Garamond. Palatino is the typeface used in the Rollins wordmark and must also be used for the titles of all Rollins schools/programs/ departments when set off as logos or identifiers. It is the preferred typeface for headlines, banners, and body text.

Athletic Logo

Both one- and two-color versions of the official “Rollins College Tars” athletic logo can be obtained through Print Services. The two-color version should print in PMS 540 blue and either PMS 872 gold or PMS 123 yellow.

Student Publications

While student publications designed for internal use are not subject to the College's prescribed graphic standards, students are encouraged to follow the College’s graphic style guidelines.

Exceptions to the graphic standards outlined above must be authorized by the director of publications. Questions concerning graphic and editorial style guidelines should be directed to the director of publications at mwismar@rollins.edu
