All full-time Arts & Science students with less than 60 semester hours must live on campus.

Exceptions are made for students residing with their parent or legal guardian within a 50-mile commutable radius of the campus, students who are at least 21 years of age, or students who are married. Students who wish to be exempt from the housing residency requirement must apply and receive approval before the beginning of the academic year.

What if I have a housing request based on medical, psychological or disability related needs?
The Residential Life Office is committed to achieving access and does not discriminate against persons with disabilities. For specific Housing Accommodation Guidelines - click here .

What are the available living arrangements in the residence halls for new students?
Typically, new students reside in one of our traditional residence halls: Elizabeth, Holt, McKean or Ward Halls. A limited number of new students, however, will apply and be selected to live in one of the special interest housing units; Pinehurst or ROC (Rollins Outdoor Club).  All Honors students and students participating in the Living-Learning Community will live in Ward or Rex Beach Halls.

When will I receive my housing assignment?
To insure the best possible roommate pairings, incoming students for Fall Semester will receive their assignments and roommate information towards the end of July. Spring Semester incoming students will typically receive information approximately a week prior to the residence halls opening for Spring Semester.

What type of furniture does Rollins College provide?
Each room is furnished with a dresser, closet or wardrobe, bed, desk and desk chair for each assigned occupant.

Are desk lamps, trash cans, and vacuums supplied in each room?
No. We encourage all students to bring a desk lamp (room equipped with overhead light), and their own trash can. Halogen floor lamps are not permitted as they pose a severe fire safety risk due to the intense heat generated by the high wattage bulb. Each residence hall has a vacuum available for the entire residence hall population to check out and temporarily use.

Who will clean student rooms?
Before check-in, the Facilities Management Housekeeping Staff will clean each room. After a student moves in, each resident is responsible for keeping his or her room clean.

Are window blinds provided?
Yes, each window has an installed horizontal blind.

What is the size of the mattress?
Mattresses, for student comfort, are extra-long twins, measuring 80"x36". To help avoid the frustration of purchasing linens that do not fit, Residential Life has arranged with a reputable company to provide linens at a reasonable cost that are specially made for extra long mattresses. Rollins College has worked with this organization in past years, and believes they offer a reasonably priced, quality product for our students. Last year, many students conveniently purchased their linen through this program and were extremely satisfied with their selection. Information regarding linen will be mailed directly to you later this summer or you can order on-line at:

www.rhl.org/rol

Where can residents do laundry? What is the cost?
Each residence hall has a laundry room. Beginning Fall Semester 2005 - laundry machines will be provided at no additional cost. Residents, however, must use their R-Card to verify that they reside in the building.

Who is responsible for the residence halls?
The Residential Life Office is responsible for the overall operations of the residence hall system. In conjunction with the Facilities Management Office, we seek to provide students with a comfortable living-learning environment.

Does the College insure a resident's personal belongings?
No. The College is not liable for damages to or theft/loss of personal property, for the failure or interruption of utilities or for injury to persons. Students must provide their own personal property insurance or make sure they are covered under their parent's homeowner's insurance policy. The College will not issue refunds for the failure or interruptions of utilities.  For your convenience, National Student Services, Inc., is the premier student personal property insurance provider in the United States: - click here

When do the residence halls open and close?
Please check out the Residential Life Calendar

Are room changes permitted?
Yes, following the first two weeks of each semester room changes are permitted. Residents, however, first must speak with their roommate and Resident Assistant or House Manager about their concerns. Typically the staff member can assist the residents by mediating and helping the students communicate with each other. If  the problem persists or deemed irreconcilable by staff, then the student may come to the Residential Life Office to complete a room change form. A change will be approved only if housing vacancies warrant.

What types of safety and security measures are provided in/around the residence halls ?
All residence hall exterior doors are locked 24 hours a day. Students are encouraged to always lock their room doors. Room/hallway smoke detectors and building fire alarm systems help to ensure the safety of our residents. Campus Security routinely patrols campus and common living areas within the residence halls. Campus Security can be contacted 24 hours a day at 407-646-2999.
