Academic Advising
ADVISING MISSION STATEMENT
The
primary purpose of the academic advising program is to assist students
in the development of a meaningful education to prepare for a life of
change, challenge, and individual fulfillment as responsible citizens
in a global society. The advising of students by faculty is a significant
aspect of the personalized educational experience Rollins College seeks
to offer students as part of the teaching and learning continuum that
extends beyond the classroom. Advising contribute to the understanding
of the values of a liberal arts education by providing students with accurate
knowledge of the curriculum, linking the curriculum to life goals, and
by encouraging students to participate in the full array of opportunities
available to them in a caring and responsive environment.
GOALS
- To help students clarify individual values, interests, academic and
life goals;
- To help students craft an educational experience and program of study
that meets their needs.
- To provide accurate information and interpretation of College requirements;
- To help students review and evaluate progress toward established
educational goals
and completion of requirements within individual plans of study;
- To develop student awareness about educational resources available
to enhance their Education;
- To encourage students to become independent learners through development
of decision-making skills;
- To assist students in the selection of appropriate courses and other
educational experiences.
