The Tutoring Center at TJ's

How it works

You can make an appointment with a tutor by going into TutorTrac, our web-based scheduling (and database) system.  Learn how to use it up here in TJ's, at these computers, or just go to the website from any computer in the world!  Click on the course you're taking to see all available appointments, or on a tutor's name. The directions are on TutorTrac.

Most of the appointments are one-on-one. You'll probably meet with your tutor at one of these tables, or on one of the several recycled couches or loveseats we've inherited from other places on campus.  The Hub in TJ's is a funky but very comfortable place, and accordingly, we're very informal up here. We find that relaxing can help the learning process.

Your tutor will make some notes about the session and give you the top copy; your professor will also get a copy.  Your tutor will ask you to fill out a evaluation form to get a sense of what helped and what didn't.  You can also enter the evaluation raffle as you turn in the tutor's evaluation.

You might be involved in a group session offered by a tutor, often before an exam or just after a paper has been assigned.  We have a couple conference tables for this purpose, but the sofas and chairs work just as well, too.  Sometimes tutors agree to give offsite appointments; talk to the tutor about that.  Every time you work with a tutor, she or he will fill out a tutoring notes form so that your professor knows that you have been collaborating.
